Another glorious morning waking up to crystal blue skies and the fact
that our fridge had been cleaned out by dingoes. Mark located many of our
rubbish nearby in the bush as well as others milk containers and leftovers.
They certainly had a good feed from our camp last night. Dylan had told me he
had done a project on dingoes and he had said, “Mum, I remember that dingoes
have unique wrists and they can turn their heads 180 deg”, hence why they
decided to open up our fridge.
Today we would explore kings Canyon with walks. There was a 6km loop
walk (Kings Canyon Walk) that offers spectacular views from the Canyon and
Mark, Dylan and Oliver did this one along with Mark Fisher and his daughter
Kiera. Along the way are
weathered, buttressed domes of the ‘Lost City’ and the ‘Garden of Eden’, a
sheltered valley with permanent waterholes and lush vegetation. Mark Fisher’s
wife, Carmel, their other daughter, Jade and her father along with Lily and I
did the ‘Kathleen Springs Walk’
(2.6km) and this leads to a delightful spring-fed waterhole. This was a
beautiful walk but felt it wasn’t long enough. Lily got on really well with
Jade, who happens to be friends with MACY GEDDES (cousin). She had done
basketball camp with her. Its great Lily has now had a bit of girl play. After we did our short walk, I drove
back with the others with me and Mark and boys went back with Mark Fisher, when
they finished their walk probably 1.5hours after us. We are currently taking it
easy in the sunshine and have set the boys up to maybe do a little work. It’s
hard to find the time for them to do a small portion of their work that the
teachers have given them. Diaries are currently getting updated and its great
that they are remembering little facts about areas we have visited. Another
glorious sunset with the sun setting on the Giles Range and a couple of
cleansing ales. (Mark writing)The boys requested some more punishment and I
obliged and extended my lead in the Australian Uno championship.
