Mataranka

Leaving the Devils Marbles, was going to be another big day 600 plus kms, so up early and ready to go and guess what happens, ready to leave at 7.50 am, wind of the legs on the camper and one of them snaps. Well actually it’s the bolt that you wind up, and we can’t get the leg up. Oh great, a hiccup in the schedule. After half an hour, Mark pulls the bolt out and forces the leg of the trailer to stay ‘UP”, with straps etc. We are off, and its only 8.30am, that’s okay, we head around to some public toilets, which were a lot less smelly. Another big day, as we just drive and drive. Kids are happy, again thanks Drew for putting on 143 movies as they are coming in handy for big drives. Dylan however is getting into his ‘Percy Jackson’ book, and sometimes won’t put it down. (I’m happy with that). This drive Oliver started a new book, we bought him in Alice Springs, called ‘Toad Away’, and it must be funny as he is laughing every couple of pages. Our destination was Mataranka, and we can’t wait to get there. Arrived after 7 hours, (3.30pm). Our friends the Fisher’s were here too, and in this caravan park you can go and find any site you wish, and there happens to be one next to the Fisher Family. All the kids are rapt, and if the kids are happy so are the parents. We see wallabies as we drive to the site and then wow we, peacocks and peahens. We go from kangaroos and emus to dingoes and now wallabies and peacocks. They are beautiful colors and if you’re lucky enough to see them put their feathers up, are spectacular. Lily so one of them suddenly put the feathers out, so she was lucky. Set up and straight down to the thermals for a relaxing swim. This was amazing to see where the water comes out and how crystal blue the water is. Then into the water everyone went, 30 deg the water temp. My kind of water, just divine. Kids played and played in there until it was time to hop out around 6pm. It doesn’t get dark here until 6.30pm.  Over to the bar for some drinks and to listen to a local singing and playing guitar. We also wanted to finally see some Olympics on T.V, and we did, pole vaulting with Steve Hooker.
