Big day ahead today, as we head back out to
Alice Springs and then drive as far as we can, not knowing where we were going
to stop. Picked up some supplies in Alice Springs and, yes you guessed it,
filled up with more DIESEL. Full tank, yeah. 6.5hours of driving that was enough for the day, finishing
at 3.30pm, we had picked a spot at Devils Marbles Campground, from the Camp
Australia book. We were originally going to stop in Tennant Creek, but after
hearing from other campers we decided not to. I can see why, as we drove
through, all the shops were all bared up and plenty of aboriginals just sitting
on the footpaths everywhere. This campground was great as it was in amongst the
rocks themselves. It was an honesty box and you pay your fee into an envelope.
Okay, it was a little expensive, we splashed out and paid $7.30 for all of us
to stay, however there was a down side, no showers and the toilets were
horrible. Lily and I couldn’t even manage to get into the toilet it smelt so
bad. I even took a small bottle of perfume with me to shove under my nose, even
that didn’t work, Lily opted for a potty, lucky I thought to bring one and me,
well I held on until the next day. Climbing these rocks were fun and the kids
just loved them, we climbed the highest one and took many photos. After a quick
dinner, we all climbed them again and Mark and I took a beer up the top and
toasted it to ‘Phil’s ‘ mum who would have been buried that day. Later on that
night, mark took the boys back up again and lay down on the rocks looking at
all the stars up above. They saw a
shooting star that went from east to west. Such a beautiful moment for the
boys.
