The sun rose and guess what we missed the
sun come up. We will aim again tomorrow. We set off out to the Olgas otherwise known as Kata Tijuta, with lunch prepared as we
would have a picnic out there. Kata Tijuta is Pitjantjatjara meaning ‘many
heads’. This spectacular landform lies about 50 kms drive from Uluru and
Yulara. There were many different walks to do, so we chose to head to ‘The Valley of the Winds’
where we walked to the Karu Lookout. This track was really rocky and was 1.1km
one way. When we reached the top it was once again magnificent views as we
took many photos, and I know why
they call it “The Valley of the Winds”, it was really windy. You could continue
on to do another walk, which was around to the Karingana Lookout another 1.6km
one way, however Lily would never make it. But of course Dylan wanted to go on,
so Mark and Dylan headed out another 1.6km and we thought we could wait for
them to return but it would be 3.2km by the time they came back. I headed back
down the rocky track with Oliver and Lily. I always have to make it interesting
for Lily to keep her walking, as I don’t like carrying her, as she’s a bit
heavy nowadays. We played games on our decent down like, stepping on certain
stones and lets see if we can find a walking stick. We made it back down and
now to wait for Mark and Dylan to return. They took another 50mins to return
and we didn’t have the car keys, so therefore we had to sit under a mud brick
thatched roof, which is at the beginning of the track. We had lunch at the
nearby picnic area before venturing off for another walk up the Walpa Gorge. We
then popped in the culture centre and picked up a few souvenirs before
returning to camp.
(Mark takes over from
myself writing the blog, from here)- Our
last night at Yulara saw Mark take the lead in the UNO challenge. A place he is not likely to
relinquish!!!
