Discovering Alice Springs

It surprises us how cold it gets at night in Alice Springs, its divine during the day and quite warm, around 25-29 deg some days. Sun goes down and its time to change into warm clothes. We headed out to the Desert Park today, as we saw an advert for it in a local book, and it was 20% off as well. Well this place was just amazing, so much to see. You can take the walk around with an audio speaker around your neck explaining in each spot different, interesting information. Fantastic for the boys who have learnt so much. Oliver even saying how Australia has the highest amount of extinct animals Its just wonderful learning things and seeing in the Nocturnal Cave which was just pitch dark, the Sphinx Hoping Mice (yuck), the Quoll, snakes and lizards, and even the bunny and the bilby. Lily reluctant to go in but we made her. We carried around our premade lunch and sat in a shaded area. 3.30pm was the bird show in the Auditorium, we were early, like 40mins, so we waited until it opened at 3.15pm. Lily and I at right up the back, as she wouldn’t sit near the front and the boys all sat 1st row, of course. This ranger appears and she’s a fantastic, explaining all about the desert birds and out come these 2 Galahs, that fly to her and of course she feeds them seeds and they fly across everyone’s head and back to the perch again. They are trained to do this and we were just amazed and then out fly a brown owl, again trained and flies in certain directions to show everyone in the audience. Finally out comes the brown falcon, and this wasn’t as big as the wedge tail but again it flew across everyone’s head again. The ranger also showed us how they catch food in mid flight too; we managed to get a few photos, which are great. Home after and again caught up with the Fisher family and had a few drinks at the camp kitchen while the kids played at the park. Yum, butter chicken for dinner and then a lovely bath for Lily. There is a bathroom with a full size bath and she had another relaxing one tonight, getting rid of that red dust. Okay its Friday night and Mark and Mark Fisher wanted to watch Hawthorn and Geelong play so they went and watched it in Mark Fisher’s father-in-law caravan while I sat with the 5 kids and put a movie on for them all, Madagascar 3. I received a face time call tonight from my mum and dad; they are in Ho Chi Min City. That was exciting to see them sitting in their hotel lobby talking to me, who is in Alice Springs, Australia. Spoke for about 20 mins which is great and we will try and do it again as they are away in Vietnam for 3 weeks. I got off the phone and Lily is asleep in the chair. Bed at 10.30pm, after Hawthorn just lost by 2 points.
